Volunteers of the Memorial honoured with the awards “If Not for Those Ten... ”

Volunteers and representatives of institutions supporting voluntary work at the Memorial were honoured with the awards “If Not for Those Ten...” The awards were presented at the 71st anniversary of the creation of the Museum at the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Young people from the Lower Silesia Special School and Education Centre No. 12 for the Deaf and hearing impaired in Wrocław visited the Memorial under the internship project implemented jointly with the Voluntary Service Office of the International Centre for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust.
10th session of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation Council

The Council of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation held its session on 18 June in Warsaw. The primary objective of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation is to finance the conservation of the authentic remains of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The meeting was chaired by Marek Zając.
June 14th – National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of German Nazi Concentration Camps and Extermination Camps

On June 14th 1940, the transport from the prison in Tarnów amounting to 728 Poles arrived to Auschwitz. Among the prisoners, who were brought to the camp, there were soldiers participating in the September Campaign, members of underground resistance organizations, secondary school students and higher education students, as well as a small group of Polish Jews. This date marks the beginning of the functioning of the camp. According to the decision of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, June 14th is the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of German Nazi Concentration Camps and Extermination Camps.
