Expert meeting in Berlin on the standards of functioning of memorial sites

“The outstanding universal value of Auschwitz. The historical identity of Europe and the border of pars pro toto,” was the motto of the expert meeting held on 7 April 2017 at the House of Wannsee Conference in Berlin. It was attended by representatives of UNESCO, the International Auschwitz Council, the Yad Vashem Institute, Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Shoah, International Coalition of Sites of Conscience, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Witold Pilecki Center for Totalitarian Studies and the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, among others.

The Fifth International Summer Academy in German

We are pleased to announce the Fifth International Summer Academy in German organized by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, as part of educational programmes organized at the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust. It will take place on August 19 – 25, 2017. Application deadline is May 12, 2017. Results of the recruitment process will be announced till June 5, 2017.

Private letter of an SS man from the KL Auschwitz staff donated to the Archives

An original letter written by an SS man from the German Auschwitz camp garrison Stefan Dilmetz has been donated to the Auschwitz Memorial Archives. It is the first result of the appeal by the Museum announced in January and referred to the German and Austrian public regarding the transfer of documents, photos, or private letters related to the SS staff of KL Auschwitz.

“Awarness – Responsibility – Future” – call for papers for the International Education Conference on Auschwitz and the Holocaust

The International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum will hold an expert conference on education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust from 4-5 July 2017. It will be part of commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the creation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

The exhibition "Forbidden Art" at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point

The exhibition entitled “Forbidden Art” (Sztuka zakazana) was opened on February 9 at the library of the U.S Military Academy in West Point. The event was organised on the occasion of the recently celebrated, 72nd anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz.
