70th Anniversary of Liberation in Media Converage

Media activities connected with the 70th anniversary of the liberation of KL Auschwitz, which fell on January 27 2015, were summarized in the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Nearly 300 former prisoners from Poland and many other countries of the world were the most important participants of the commemorative event. The representatives of Polish authorities as well as the leaders of over 50 countries and international organizations listened to the words of the witnesses.
European Ombudsmen at the Auschwitz Memorial

“There is no better response to crime, genocide and armed aggression than the protection of human rights”, stated ombudsmen from over 30 European countries and regions after visiting the Auschwitz Memorial. The delegation, including Polish Human Rights Defender Professor Irena Lipowicz and European Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly, visited the Auschwitz Museum on April 29.

The 24th March of the Living

On April 16 the 24th March of the Living took place at the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. Several thousand people, mostly young Jews from over 45 countries, but also a large group of young Poles, marched from the 'Arbeit macht frei' gate at former Auschwitz I camp to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, where main commemorative events were held near the ruins of the gas chambers and crematoria.

Dr. Piotr M.A. Cywiński, Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, was appointed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Prof. Małgorzata Omilanowska to the Council for Museums at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Acts of appointment for the term of office 2015-2018 were presented in Warsaw on April 15 2015. The director of the Auschwitz Memorial Site was already member of the Council during its two previous terms of office.
