Director of the Auschwitz Museum in the Council for Museums

Dr. Piotr M.A. Cywiński, Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, was appointed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Prof. Małgorzata Omilanowska to the Council for Museums at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Acts of appointment for the term of office 2015-2018 were presented in Warsaw on April 15 2015. The director of the Auschwitz Memorial Site was already member of the Council during its two previous terms of office.

Fourth Session of the Museum Council

The summary of the 70th anniversary of liberation of the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp Auschwitz constituted the main subject of the session of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum Council which took place on April 14. The Council, appointed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, supervises the statutory operation of the Museum, and also expresses opinions on the Museum’s plans of operation.

Authentic memorabilia and documents contribute to the Memory of Auschwitz

Authentic artifacts and documents connected with the history of the German Nazi Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp are so unique because they preserve and commemorate the history of people to whom they belonged. That is why all personal memorabilia donated to the Memorial are of particular importance.

Auschwitz document found in a Łódź high school handed over to the Auschwitz Archive

The management of Gabriel Narutowicz High School no. 2 in Łódź handed over what is most likely an original document of the camp that was found in the school library, to the Archives of the Auschwitz Memorial Site. This is the list of new prisoners that arrived to the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp on 21 May 1941. It contains the names of 15 prisoners deported to Auschwitz from Lodz, Poznan and Katowice.

“Your assistance is highly needed”. A collection of Tadeusz Łukasiewicz’s camp letters now in the Archives of the Memorial Site.

A unique and extremely extensive collection of original documents concerning Tadeusz Łukasiewicz, a prisoner of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz, registered under number 16941, are now in the Archives of the Memorial Site.

Long-term minsterial program for financing creation of the new main exhibition

The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage will provide funding for the creation of the new main exhibition at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Site. The letter of intent in this regard was signed on March 6th in Warsaw by minister Małgorzata Omilanowska and Piotr M.A. Cywiński, director of the Museum. Project costs are estimated at ca. PLN 100 million.
