“Auschwitz: Memory and Education in the Context of European Identity”

“Auschwitz: Memory and Education in the Context of European Identity” is the title of this year’s seminar for educators and teachers from the member states of the Council of Europe, which took place in Kraków and Oświęcim between October 26 and 31, 2013. Methods of teaching about the Holocaust, as well as the situation of handicapped people during the Nazi times were the main issues discussed in the course of the training.

Preservation of the Camp Bathhouse

Conservation of relics which remain after the camp bathhouse has commenced. The historical object in the area of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz I was located between blocks 1 and 2. Today’s very bad condition of the preserved historical ruins determined their urgent protection.

Recruitment for online courses

Educators and penitentiary managers of penitentiaries and jails from the Regional Inspectorate of Prison Service in Kraków and the Inspectorate in Katowice took part in seminars in the subsequent edition of “Auschwitz, history, civic education”.

President of Finland visits Auschwitz Memorial Site

The president of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, visited the Auschwitz Memorial Site and Museum on 10 October. This visit was of a private nature. The honoured guest was greeted by the director of the Museum, Dr Piotr M.A. Cywiński.

“432. Marian Kołodziej. Magister vitae" — educational session

An educational session devoted to the life and work of former Auschwitz prisoner Marian Kołodziej, one of the leading Polish theatre set designers after World War II, was held on 2 October 2013. It was organised by the International Centre for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust and the St Maximilian Kolbe Centre in Harmęże, which presents an exhibition of the work of Marian Kołodziej entitled “Klisze Pamięci”.
