Fiat’s support for the Memorial
FCA Italy and Gruppo Dirigenti Fiat have donated two cars to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Jeep Renegade and Fiat 500 X AWD will be used by Museum Security. The cars were offered during the official event held in Turin.
“Representatives of Fiat Management Group visited the Auschwitz Memorial last June. Our association is very sensitive to such universal issues as the respect for human life and freedom of religion. That is why we decided to support the Museum”, the donors wrote in the official statement.
It says: “For Gruppo Dirigenti Fiat, supporting the commitment of those who through their everyday work contribute to preserving the memory of the tragic and fearsome history of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp is of major importance. This memory should be passed on to future generations as a lesson and source of strength”.
“I would like to thank you for this important contribution and support of our mission of protecting the Memorial. The cars will be delivered to Museum Security who ensure the safety of the historical authentic area as well as of thousands of visitors of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp”, said Anna Skrzypińska, Deputy Director of the Museum.
Moreover, a meeting with city and regional authorities as well as with the representatives of the Jewish community was held in Turin. Museum representatives were also invited to one of the local schools.
In 2014, the Memorial was visited by 84,000 Italians and the Italian Republic declared to support the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation with 1 million euros. The foundation aims at preserving authentic remains of the former camp for future generations.
