27 January: the 75th anniversary of liberation of Auschwitz in live TV broadcast
The Polish television (TVP) will be the producer of the official TV broadcasting signal during the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on 27 January 2020. The free TV signal available in satellite transmissions will be available to TV stations around the world.
Streaming of the anniversary events with simultaneous translation into Polish and English will also be available in HD quality at www.auschwitz.org, on YouTube and social media sites of the Auschwitz Memorial.
'The message about Auschwitz will never reach wide audiences without the work of journalists. Five years ago, thanks to the media, the topic of the anniversary reached about 2 billion people. That is why - despite the fact that two months still remain to the accreditation process - we already began media preparation, so that agencies, TV stations, newspapers and other media from around the world would be ready for January 27, 2020. Only this way can we jointly create a world where responsibility will be rooted in memory,' said Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński, the director of the Museum.
All TV stations interested in satellite transmission are advised to contact Ewa Borkowska from TVP (+48 22 547 68 55, ). Details of the licence agreement will be published on the website 75.auschwitz.org
During the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in 2015, the commemoration events were brodcasted by more than 250 television channels all over the world. According to data gathered, more than half a billion people watched the event live.
The media accreditation process for the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz will take place from 6-19 January. Different pools will be created for agency photographers, who will be present in the main tent of the anniversary event, as well as for camera operators and photojournalists who will observe the laying of candles by former prisoners and official delegations at the monument in the former Birkenau camp.
A press centre and "live" broadcast stations will also be available in the historic building of the main sauna at the site of Birkenau.
'The anniversary will take place in the authentic space of the former camp. The fact that the area is subject to conservation protection may pose some difficulties and limitations; nevertheless, the Press Office staff will do all they can to facilitate the work of representatives of the media. After all, it is thanks to journalists that the message about the history of Auschwitz, as well as the words of witnesses, will be able to reach public opinion all over the world,' said Bartosz Bartyzel, the Museum spokesman.
Given that it will be extremely difficult to talk to Survivors on January 27th due to organisational reasons, a special meeting with them will be organised on the eve of the anniversary for representatives of the media.
Detailed information about the 75th anniversary of the liberation is systematically published at 75.auschwitz.org. It also contains a media package with basic information about the history of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz.
