Seminar for educators from Israel finished

Educators from Israel, including staff of the Yad Vashem Institute for Holocaust Studies, teachers and guides who come to Poland with the Israeli youth, participated in the seminar “Auschwitz in the collective consciousness in Poland and around the world. The role and significance of the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial for Jews and Poles” It has been organised by The International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.
Roma and Sinti Genocide Remembrance Day

2 August is celebrated in Poland as the Roma and Sinti Genocide Remembrance Day. 70 years ago, on the night of 2 to 3 August 1944, the Nazis liquidated the so-called family camp for the Roma (Zigeunerfamilienlager) in the Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp. It involved killing in gas chambers almost 3 thousand children, women and men, the last Roma prisoners of the camp. The ceremonies, which took place on the site of the former Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz II-Birkenau, were attended by over 1 000 people.
70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising outbreak

On the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising outbreak, dr Piotr M.A. Cywiński, Director of Auschwitz Museum, paid tribute to the heroes and victims of the Uprising, including thousands of inhabitants of capital deported to Auschwitz. He laid a wreath under the Wall of Death five o’clock sharp – at the same hour when the uprising started.
International Summer Academy in German

The International Summer Academy in German took place at the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and Holocaust on 23-29 of August. This year’s edition gathered 22 participants: teachers, students, educators from Dachau and Mauthausen Memorials, and a university lecturer from The University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
