Distinction of the Special Prize of the European Civil Rights Prize of the Sinti and Roma for Piotr M. A. Cywiński

Dr. Piotr M.A. Cywiński, Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, was honoured with the Special Prize of the European Civil Rights Prize of the Sinti and Roma. The award ceremony took place on August 1st in Cracow during a special concert organized at the eve of the Roma and Sinti Genocide Remembrance Day.
75th anniversary of outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, Museum Director Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński paid homage to its heroes and victims, including nearly 13 thousand citizens of the capital deported by the Germans to the Auschwitz camp. On August 1st at 5 o’clock p.m. – the “W” hour marking the beginning of the fights – he laid a wreath by the Death Wall at the courtyard of Block 11 in the former Auschwitz I camp.
Protecting the sky over the Memorial

Auschwitz Museum is probably the first museum in the world for which an official flight restriction zone was established. It will make it possible to better protect the authentic site of the former camp as well as the visitors of the Memorial through among others the possibility to control drones flying over the historical area visited each year by over two million people.
“Auschwitz - Never again! – Really?”. Summary of the international educational conference

“Auschwitz – Never again! – Really?” – was the motto of the International Educational Conference, which took place from 1-4 July 2019 at the Auschwitz Memorial. The topics of lectures and discussions concerned education in the context of preventing genocide and crimes against humanity. The event took place under the honorable patronage of Professor Piotr Gliński, Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
