Polish-English report summarizing the year 2016 in the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum has been published. In his introduction, director Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński emphasized that Auschwitz is a timeless and universal warning to contemporary and future generations.

The original personal items of Auschwitz victims, discovered in 1967 during archaeological works in the area of the gas chamber and crematorium III in Birkenau, will for the first time publicly presented at exhibitions in the Auschwitz Memorial and the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris. The exhibition "Archaeology" has been prepared on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz, which we will be commemorated on 27 January 2017.

The Director of the Auschwitz Museum has appealed to the German and Austrian public to hand over documents, photos, personal letters or any other materials associated with the SS staff of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

“The fate of Soviet prisoners in Auschwitz” is the new online lesson prepared by the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust. The author of the lesson is Dr. Jacek Lachendro, a historian at the Auschwitz Museum Research Center.

2 million 53 thousand people from all over the world visited in 2016 the site of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz and Auschwitz II-Birkenau which is protected by the Museum. This is a record number in the history of the Memorial which this year will mark the 70th anniversary of its creation.

Nearly 70 Auschwitz Museum educators-guides took part in lectures conducted by the employees and cooperators of Amud Aish Memorial Centre from New York. They constituted part of specialist training program prepared by the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust, in which Auschwitz Memorial guides participate each year.
