The climax of the 10th International Conference on Holocaust Education was the discussion between Avner Shalev, chairperson of the Yad Vashem Directorate and Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński, director of Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum regarding the future of education about the Holocaust.

15 years ago a conservation laboratory was opened at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, which is today one of the most modern of its kind in the world.

Young people from the Lower Silesia Special School and Education Centre No. 12 for the Deaf and hearing impaired in Wrocław visited the Memorial under the internship project implemented jointly with the Voluntary Service Office of the International Centre for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust.

The Council of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation held its session on 18 June in Warsaw. The primary objective of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation is to finance the conservation of the authentic remains of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The meeting was chaired by Marek Zając.

On June 14th 1940, the transport from the prison in Tarnów amounting to 728 Poles arrived to Auschwitz. Among the prisoners, who were brought to the camp, there were soldiers participating in the September Campaign, members of underground resistance organizations, secondary school students and higher education students, as well as a small group of Polish Jews. This date marks the beginning of the functioning of the camp. According to the decision of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, June 14th is the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of German Nazi Concentration Camps and Extermination Camps.

On June 14th, marking the anniversary of the deportation of first Poles to KL Auschwitz, a new exhibition was made available to the public in two halls on the ground floor of Block 11 in the former Auschwitz I camp, devoted to the resistance movement in the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp. Among the participants of the inauguration ceremony there were among others Deputy Prime Minister of Poland Beata Szydło and Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage Jarosław Sellin.
