AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU FORMER GERMAN NAZI CONCENTRATION AND EXTERMINATION CAMP
A unique historical object has enriched the Collections of the Auschwitz Museum. It is a photo album framed in a cover made of human skin. Research by Museum experts indicates that it could have been created at the German concentration camp in Buchenwald.
The director of the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum, Piotr M. A. Cywiński, PhD, has been awarded the papal decoration "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice. The ceremony took place on 14 January 2020 at the residence of the Archbishops of Warsaw.
"Jews from the Lodz Ghetto in KL Auschwitz" is a new online lesson prepared by the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust. Its author is Dr. Adam Sitarek, from the Center for Jewish Research at the University of Łódź. The lesson is available in Polish, English and Hebrew.
In 2019, 2 million 320 thousand people from all over the world visited the sites of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, under the protection of the Museum. It is about 170,000 more than in the record-breaking year - 2018.
We have started the process of media accreditation for the 75. anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz that will take place at the Memorial on 27 January 2020.
More than 1,200,000 entries from the post-camp documentation have been created by the Digital Repository of the Memorial Site. So far, more than 60 per cent of the 400,000 prisoners registered in the German Nazi concentration camp have been identified.
Images from www.auschwitz.org may be used only in publications relating to the history of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau or the activities of the Auschwitz Memorial. Their use must not tarnish the good reputation of the victims of KL Auschwitz. Any interference in the integrity of the images – including cropping or graphic processing – is prohibited. The use of the images for commercial purposes requires the Museum’s approval and information about the publication.
