International Summer Academy in German - 23-27 August 2021
The 8th edition of the International Summer Academy in German – “Auschwitz – history, memory and education” will take place on August 23-27 2021. The program has been organized by the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust at the Auschwitz Birkenau State Museum in cooperation with Pädagogische Hochschule Wien.
This year, the seminar will be held online via the ZOOM platform, and it is addressed in particular to teachers, educators, the staff of memorials as well as to students and all those interested in the history of World War II and the Holocaust.
Seminar agenda includes lectures, presentations, workshops, talks and virtual tours devoted to the multifaceted history of German Nazi Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp as well as the Museum and Memorial Site that preserves the historical site.
Classes dedicated to the history of the Jewish community of Cracow have also been planned, including a virtual tour of Kazimierz, the former Jewish district, and Podgórze, where the ghetto was established by the Germans during WW2. What is more, the activity of the Jewish Center in Oświęcim is going to be presented to Academy participants together with the history of Jewish inhabitants of the town.
Among the speakers of International Summer Academy there will be among others staff members of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, the Jewish Center in Oświęcim as well as Jagiellonian University in Cracow.
