Valuable historical objects discovered in the ruins of gas chambers in Birkenau.

The Museum's Collections Department has added several valuable historical exhibits over the last few days. They were discovered in the course of preservation work at the ruins of gas chambers and crematoria II and III at the Auschwitz II-Birkenau site.

June 21, Warsaw (PAP-Polish Press Agency)-Ten people were awarded Righteous among the Nations of the World medals on Wednesday. The medals are given to individuals and families who risked their own lives to rescue Jews during World War II. Polish President Lech Kaczyński attended the ceremony and said that the recipients had demonstrated "supreme valor.".

June 12, Warsaw (PAP-Polish Press Agency) – Piotr Cywiński was named director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum on Monday by Minister of Culture and National Heritage Kazimierz Michał Ujazdowski. Cywiński will take up his duties on September 1.

June 19, Bielsko-Biała (PAP-Polish Press Agency) – A white alloy signet ring that belonged to Polish former Auschwitz prisoner Tadeusz Orłowski (camp number 111) and a metal lighter that probably belonged to a Polish prisoner in the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp have been donated to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Collections Department head Igor Bartosik told PAP on Monday....

Commemorating the Anniversary of the First Deportation to Auschwitz

June 14, Oświęcim (PAP—Polish Press Agency). The 66th anniversary of the deportation of 728 Polish political prisoners to the German Auschwitz camp was marked in Oswiecim on Wednesday. June 14 is regarded as the day when the camp began functioning. Former prisoners, including some from the first transport, took part in the ceremony.
