From Intern to Candidate - Museum Director Meets with Guides
Museum Director Dr. Piotr M.A. Cywiński met with guides to the grounds of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum on the occasion of the recent 60th anniversary of the founding of the Museum.
During the meeting, he presented eight interns with nominations for more advanced guide status. The new regulations, introduced at the start of last year, provide for four ranks: Intern, Candidate, Guide, and Certified Guide. The director of the Museum promotes guides to higher ranks when they have fulfilled the requirements set out in the regulations.
The director stressed the fact that the work of Museum guides is difficult and involves a great deal of responsibility, but also offers scope for ambition. Beyond conveying the history of the site, guides have a positive influence on changing the attitudes of visitors.
Referring to the New Testament, the director compared the guides to the “peacemakers.” He presented the guides at the meeting with medals marking the anniversary.
