XIII edition of the postgraduate studies
On 15 March, 35 individuals began classes for the XIII edition of the postgraduate studies “Totalitarianism — Nazism — Holocaust.” After the inauguration ceremony and the handing out of indexes, they listened to a lecture entitled, “A trip into the past,” by Halina Birenbaum, Israeli poet and writer, who was a former prisoner of Auschwitz.
The studies are a joint venture between the International Centre for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust and the Institute of History of the Pedagogical University in Kraków. The individuals are not only teachers of humanities, but also curators, guides and other persons interested in the issues presented during the studies.
The postgraduate studies have a qualifying character in terms of knowledge concerning selected aspects of the history of the XX century. Their subject matter includes both aspects of the history of totalitarian systems, World War II, with particular emphasis on the history of the Holocaust, as well as issues related to the history and culture of the Jews and Roma. The lecturers are researchers from the Pedagogical University in Kraków, the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum and other Polish universities - historians, literary scholars and sociologists.
Studies will last 3 semesters, until July 2013. A condition of their completion — in addition to participation in activities — is the writing of a thesis on a selected topic under the guidance of a supervisor.
