Work Continues on the Restoration of the Oswiecim Synagogue

The cornerstone for the restoration of the synagogue in Oswiecim was laid on November 8, 1999.
Those in attendance included representatives of the Polish and American governments, the bishop of the Bielsko-Zywiec diocese, other invited guests, and the initiators of the project, the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation, based in New York.
After opening remarks by Professor Jonathan Webber of Oxford, a solemn prayer was sung and selected guests, including Bishop Rakoczy of the Bielsko-Zywiec diocese and Father Jerzy Brozka, turned their hands to the laying of the cornerstone, which was brought from Jerusalem.
