Volunteer Academy 2023. Invitation to participate in the project.
"The Volunteer Academy" is a project of the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust at the Auschwitz Museum, aimed at individuals interested in the history of the Auschwitz camp and volunteering in the Archives of the Memorial. The Academy will take place online between 13 October and 23 November. The programe will be conducted in English.
'People from counties such as Australia, France, Macedonia, Germany, Nigeria, and the United States participated in the last year's inaugural edition of the project. This shows that projects carried out by the Museum reach many places, and most importantly, many people want to get involved. This has tremendous value because volunteering at the Memorial and personal involvement in preserving the memory helps to build a community aware of moral responsibility in opposing evil,' emphasized Katarzyna Marcak, head of the Volunteer Office at ICEAH.
'What is extremely important for us is that some participants from the first edition of the project continue their volunteering at the Memorial in different forms - both exclusively online and in a hybrid mode,' Marcak added.
Participants of the Academy will have the opportunity to gain a detailed understanding of the history of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. The program includes guided tours as well as additional lectures and workshops led by historians and educators of the Museum.
As part of their volunteering at the Memorial, Academy participants will assist in the international project "Reconstructing the Identities of Deportees and Prisoners of KL Auschwitz Based on Archival Data from Auschwitz Museum in Oświęcim and the Arolsen Archive in Bad Arolsen."
'Currently, we are working on indexing documents in our database. The selected set of documents that Academy participants will work with consists of personal records of female prisoners of Auschwitz camp, who were transferred to the Buchenwald Markkleeberg sub-camp on 10 October 1944,' said Anna Jawień from the Office for Former Prisoners.
Participation in the Volunteer Academy is free of charge, and the number of places is limited. Admission is not determined by the order of applications. Interested individuals are requested to fill out the online form by 24 September 2023.
