Verses from Auschwitz
The multimedia exhibition entitled La Memoria: pitture, immagini e versi per non dimenticare la Shoah (Memory: paintings, images and verses for not forgetting the Shoah) has opened at Villa Manzoni in Lecco/Italy on February 15, 2002.
The exhibition, that can may visited until March 31, 2002, has been staged by Federico Bario and Marilinda Rocca, with the fundamental co-operation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum and the support of the Culture Department of the Province of Lecco and other local institutions. It presents paintings, collages and installations about the Nazi era and Final Solution made by Mr. Bario; a selection of the Auschwitz Poems (translated into Italian for the first time by Ms. Rocca); photographs of Kazimierz, the Cracow Jewish quarter destroyed by the Nazis, and of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camps, taken in March and July 2001, as well as documents and photographs kindly supplied by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. Klezmer and yiddish music, CD-roms, and videos serve as support material.
