Training in Israel

05-09-2003

35 Poles, mostly teachers, clergy, and memorial site staff, are leaving on Monday for two weeks of training in Israel on the history of the Jews with special emphasis on the Holocaust.

During their stay in Israel, the group will hear lectures by researchers from the Yad Vashem Institute and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. They will attend a series of educational workshops and visit Jerusalem and the Museum of the Diaspora in Jerusalem, as well as visiting places associated with the history of Christianity.

The Polish teachers hope, aside from acquiring a grounding in the history and culture of the Jews, to form contacts with educational institutions in Israel. They want to prepare the way for cooperation in joint educational ventures between schools, teacher training institutes, and museums and memorial sites in Poland and Israel.

Organized by the Yad Vashem Institute in cooperation with the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, the training program is financed by the Israel Education Ministry, the Polish Ministry of National Education and Sport, and the foreign affairs ministries of the two countries.

Participants of the training in Israel will also visit Tell Aviv. Photo: jarmen
