The Italians Are Still Waiting

15-04-2002

The lack of a response from the Malopolska provincial monuments officer is delaying the start of production in the buildings that used to belong to the now-bankrupt Oświęcim Vehicle Repair Factory, which were purchased last September by an Italian firm that plans to employ up to 300 people there.

Members of the Oświęcim city council have addressed a question to the Ministry of Culture about the reason for the long delay in the issuance of an opinion by the provincial monuments officer, whose agreement is necessary before the firm can begin production.

The Italians want to erect a center where a dozen or more Italian production, trading, and service firms would operate. They have declared a desire to employ 100 people at the beginning, with this figure possibly rising to 300. See also the news from September 20, 2001
