The Final Additions

24-01-2003

Professor Marian Kołodziej has made his final addition of new drawings to the exhibit of his work, titled Images from Memory: Labyrinths, in the basement of the church at the International Father Kolbe Center in Harmęże.

A former Auschwitz Concentration Camp prisoner (number 432—he arrived at the camp in the first transport), Marian Kołodziej is an outstanding stage designer who has decorated the stages for numerous theatre and television productions, as well as the altars on the Polish seacoast during Jan Pawel II's pilgrimages to his homeland.

He has been working on his Images from Memory: Labyrinths exhibition, which has been shown repeatedly in Poland and other countries, since 1995. Now permanently installed in the Harmęże church basement, it represents the author's personal, individual coming to terms with the camp past. "It is not an exhibition, not art, not pictures, but words captured in sketches," says Kołodziej of his work."
