The artistic creativity of Auschwitz prisoners — Educational seminar

12-02-2009

”Artistic creativity of Auschwitz prisoners” is the topic of a one-day educational seminar, which took place February 28th at the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau.

The seminar started with a lecture by Jolanta Kupiec, the author of the albums: Auschwitz In Sculpture, At One’s Limit, and What Will Be Left After Us…? Workshops on using the albums with students about the art made in the concentration camp also took place.

“The desire of many prisoners, the victims of concentration camps, was also leaving behind a trace, a message of their suffering and of the inhumane crimes carried out in those places. Those who survived carried in their freedom, encoded in their consciousness, the call to bear witness to what the concentration camps were; the suffering, humiliation that man endured, and how ever-present death and extermination were there“.

(Jolanta Kupiec, “Auschwitz in Sculpture“, Oświęcim 2006).
