Silver "Gloria Artis" for the director of the Auschwitz Museum
The director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum Dr. Piotr M.A. Cywiński was awarded a silver Gloria Artis Medal by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Prof. Małgorzata Omilanowska.
The award was presented on May 29 at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Warsaw.
Originally, the award was scheduled to be presented during the I Congress of Polish Museologists, which took place in April in Łódź. However, in this period, director Cywiński was in Yerevan for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the extermination of the Armenians.
According to minister Małgorzata Omilanowska, the Congress, which has been a great success of the museum world, will become a start of new relations between museum and their organizers. In her opinion the resolutions of the Congress, which demand further legislative works, bring many challanges but also give a lot of hope for the future.
The Gloria Artis Medal is awarded to persons particularly outstanding in the area of the arts, cultural activities or the protection of culture and national heritage.
