Report on the state of martyrdom museums in Poland

30-01-2002

The Museum has issued a call for the martyrdom museums in Poland (Majdanek, Sztutowo [Stutthof], Rogoźnica [Gross-Rosen], Treblinka, Chełmno nad Nerem [Kulmhof], Sobibor, and Belzec) to report on their position in regard to their current situation.

The initiative resulted from a session, held late last year at the Museum, of the Preservation Commission of the International Auschwitz Council. Representatives of the Majdanek and Sztutowo museums joined provincial preservation officers from Małopolska, Gdańsk, and Lublin provinces in discussing the problems facing such museums in Poland. The information will be used as the basis for a "Report on the State of Martyrdom Museums in Poland," which will be sent to the Council for the Protection of Monuments of Fighting and Suffering, as well as to the Ministry of Culture.
