Program for the Ceremonies Marking the 64th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz Concentration
On January 27, 2009, the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum will hold ceremonies marking the 64th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi German Auschwitz camp by the Red Army. This year’s observance, with the theme To Hear Every Word, will be dedicated to the message to the younger generation from the eyewitnesses to history. The focal point of the ceremony will be a meeting with the former prisoners who tell their story to the world.
In connection with invitations to the ceremonies marking the 64th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi German Auschwitz camp on January 27, 2009, sent out by the Mayor of Oświęcim, we inform that:
The only organizer of the ceremonies, held at the Konarski High School and the site of the former concentration camp, is the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum along with the S. Konarski Secondary School Complex no. 1. Including the ceremonies to any broader program or joining them to any other commemorative events is being done without knowledge or permission of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

January 26
- Placing of floral tributes at the graves of the victims of the Death March
January 27
- 8:30 a.m. – Homage to the Victims at the Monument to the Victims of Auschwitz III-Monowitz Concentration Camp in Monowice, the Soviet Prisoners of War Cemetery in Birkenau, the Monument to the Destruction of the Roma in Birkenau, and the graves of Soviet soldiers at the Parish Cemetery in Oświęcim
- 9:30 a.m. – Homage to the Victims at the Death Wall and Crematorium I (Auschwitz I)
- 10:00 a.m. – Homage to the Victims at the Monument to the Liberated and the Liberators and the grave of the Last Victims (ul. Więźniów Oświęcimia)
- 10:30 a.m. – Mass at the Church of the Divine Mercy (osiedle Rotmistrza Witolda Pileckiego)
- 12:00 noon – Main Observance: To Hear Every Word (S. Konarski Secondary School Complex no. 1)
- 2:45 p.m. – March of Remembrance from the Gate of Death to the Monument to the Victims of the Camp (Auschwitz II-Birkenau)
- 3:00 p.m. – Placing of floral tributes, prayers
