Preservation of Concrete Fenceposts

A conference was held on the problem of the conservation of the concrete posts from the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp perimeter fence.

It was agreed that each fencepost is an individual object, and that an individual preservation approach should be taken to each of the almost 3,500 fenceposts.

Preservation proposals from professors at the universities of Torun, Warsaw, and Cracow (Poland) and Aachen (Germany) were discussed.

The work will be financed by the German Federal Lands.

The projected overall cost is almost eight million zloty.
