Pilot seminar for German and Polish teachers - Call for Participants
The International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust at the Auschwitz Museum, together with the Buchenwald and Sachsenhausen Memorials, is introducing a pilot seminar entitled "How to Deal with a Difficult Past? - Educational Perspectives on National Socialism, Shoah, and the Second World War" for teachers from Germany and Poland.
The seminar is open to everyone, from students completing their studies to experienced teachers introducing the topic of world war 2 crimes into classrooms.
The project will take place in Germany (Buchenwald and Sachsenhausen Memorials) from July 14-19, 2023, and in Poland (Auschwitz Memorial) from September 28-October 2, 2023.
"It is not possible to understand the crimes perpetrated in Auschwitz without going back to the pre-war time, putting Auschwitz into a broader context, as well as confronting different points of view and ways of remembrance about them. The aim of the project is to follow and analyze the history of the crimes of German Nazism - from their origin to the way how they are remembered in the contemporary world," said Andrzej Kacorzyk, the director of ICEAH.
During the two-part programme participants will not only have an opportunity to visit authentic memorial sites and deepen their historical knowledge, but also find out more about the educational activities and exchange experience with the staff of the memorials.
The maximum number of the participants is 10 (5 from Germany and 5 from Poland). In order to apply, please fill in and send the online form. The applications should be submitted until May 31, 2023.
Participants will be selected according to the possibility of using of the knowledge acquired during the seminar in their own projects. Recruitment results will be sent until June 7, 2023.
The language of both parts of the seminar is English. Organizers will cover the costs of accommodation, board, local transfer and programme. Participants will pay for the travel to and from the places of the seminar as well as for the health insurance.
