Maja Back in Court

After an adjournment of over one year, the District Court in Bielsko-Biala reopened proceedings in the suit by the Maja SA Corporation, developers of a commercial center located close to the Auschwitz camp site, against the State Treasury.

Problems with the development arose in the winter of 1996, after revelation of the fact that it would stand within the boundaries of the buffer zone around the site of the camp.

The governor of Bielsko province ordered a halt to construction after protests by some Jewish groups. (see also April 22, 2002 news: Maja Underway)
