Is it hard to live in the vicinity of Auschwitz Memorial? Oświęcim: city residents want a referendum
More than 6,000 residents of the city of Oświęcim have signed a petition calling for a referendum on plans for a new zoning ordinance for the areas around the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.
The zoning plans would impose certain limitations and hardships on the use of these areas, and have caused controversy among some Oświęcim residents. The group collecting signatures for the referendum also wants city residents to express their opinions on the 100-meter buffer zone introduced around the camp in 1999.
