Paweł Sawicki International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust announces recruitment for the Third International Summer Academy that is organized as part of educational programs offered by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. This year’s edition will take place from June 29 till July 4 in Oświęcim and Cracow, Poland.
The Summer Academy addresses teachers, educators, museologists, researchers and all those who are interested in the historical, sociological and religious aspects of Auschwitz and the Holocaust. The program includes modules concerning academic research in the field, commemoration and preservation of authentic historical sites as well as reflection on how memory of Auschwitz and the Holocaust can be incorporated into educational values of modern civic societies.
The Academy is a combination of an encounter with the original historical place, with the memorial site and the museum as an institution, along with the knowledge shared by experts in the field: museum staff and invited researchers. Participants will join study guided tours of the former camps Auschwitz I and AuschwitzII-Birkenau; they will also visit Museum Archives, Collections and Preservation Department.
Moreover, the Academy schedule comprises series of lectures and discussions on subjects connected with Auschwitz and its post-war history as well as with Polish-Jewish and Polish-German relations. Substantial part of the program will be devoted to educational challenges facing the Auschwitz Museum, the world’s best known Memorial site and the symbol of the Holocaust. One day of the program will be realized in Cracow in cooperation with the Institute of Jewish Studies at the Jagiellonian University.
All participants will receive certificates.
