“History, Memory, Education”. Summer Academy 2014 in English and German.
We invite all people who are interested in Auschwitz-related issues and Holocaust education to the International Summer Academy 2014 – a seminar organised in English and German. In particular, we would like to invite teachers, educators, museum personnel and employees of those institutions that deal with the history of the Second World War.
SUMMER ACADEMY IN ENGLISH: 29th JUNE – 5th July (RECRUITMENT CLOSED)
SUMMER ACADEMY IN GERMAN: 23rd August – 29th August - (RECRUITMENT CLOSED)
First of all, attending the Academy provides the participants with an opportunity to experience an authentic Memorial Site. A specialist guided tour around the area of the former Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz will be extended with a visit to the newly-opened former prisoner blocks, after completing a three year conservation project facilitated by the co-financing from the European Union.
During the Summer Academy the participants will also have an opportunity to learn about the activities of various Museum departments, including the Archive and Collections. They will also find out about the work methods at the Conservation Laboratories.
The programme will also include a series of lectures and workshops conducted by the invited experts. The classes will help the participants to expand their knowledge about Auschwitz and the Holocaust not only in its historical aspect, but also the sociological and religious one. The historical issues will be accompanied by the lectures on the methodology of teaching about Auschwitz and the Holocaust which will prepare the participants for work with young people.
The classes will be held within the area of the Auschwitz Memorial. The programme also includes a study visit in Cracow, where the participants will be able to learn about the history and culture of Cracovian Jews, visit the Jewish District of Kazimierz and the places connected with the pre-war history of the Jewish community.
The Academy is organised by the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and Holocaust. For more information please contact the coordinator of the Academy Adelina Hetnar-Michaldo from the ICEAH (in English), and Magdalena Urbaniak (in German).
