30-05-2012

In May at the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust in the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum took place an educational session If the Stars Could Only Speak that included the attendance and participation of Batsheva Dagan – Israeli writer, poet, and former prisoner of the Auschwitz Concentration and Death Camp who was hosted by the Museum connection with the publication of two of her books for children, Czika, the Dog in the Ghetto and If the Stars Could Only Speak.

During the meeting, the author spoke about her experiences within the Camp, quoting poems from her collection of poems in the volume, Imagination: Blessed Be, Cursed Be: Reminiscences from “There.” She also described the psychological and educational methods that are helpful in sharing knowledge about the Shoah with children.

The participants of the meeting also took part in the workshops, entitled, Teaching About the Holocaust in Primary School (Dilemmas, Challenges, Methods and Forms of Education), which was led by Małgorzata Rusiłowicz, who authored the lesson plans to accompany the two children’s books.

The meeting with Batsheva Dagan was made possible thanks to the financial support provided by the Israeli Embassy in Poland.
