Call for Participants: Seminar for Journalists 2024 | 7-10 October
"History, Memory and Responsibility" is the title of the English-language seminar for journalists at the Auschwitz Memorial. It will take place on 7-10 October 2024 (Oct 7 & 10 are the arrival and departure days).
The seminar will include both a historical part with an in-depth study visit of the former German Nazi camp (including spaces closed for visitors), lectures and discussions as well as visits to different parts of the Museum (Collections and Conservation), meeting with the director of the Museum before the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and visiting the Auschwitz Jewish Center in Oświęcim.
'Auschwitz is a place that shows where hatred, antisemitism, and contempt for a fellow man led people over eight decades ago. The Memorial today is where we should also reflect on our individual and collective moral responsibility for the world we live in,' said Bartosz Bartyzel, spokesman of the Museum.
'The voice of the media is essential not only to preserve memory and commemorate the victims of Auschwitz but also to amplify the warnings that emerge from this human tragedy. As we approach the 80th anniversary of its liberation, journalists have a vital role in ensuring that the voices of Auschwitz are heard by the world. By participating in the media seminar, journalists can deepen their understanding of history and enhance their ability to communicate the significance of the past for people today and in the future,' added Bartyzel.
On October 10 the journalists will have an opportunity to visit an exhibition of artworks made by Auschwitz Survivor Marian Kołodziej as well as The Remembrance Museum of Land of Oświęcim Residents.
