A statement by the chairman of the International Auschwitz Co to the discotheque issue
A statement by the chairman of the International Auschwitz Council in regard to the discotheque at the site of the former tannery (Lederfabrik):
I am shocked by the decision of the starosta of Oswiecim on the location of an entertainment facility in a building connected with the tragic history of Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp and directly adjacent to the International Youth Meeting House. I hereby express my bewilderment that this decision was undertaken without the proper consultation with historians, and contrary to the position held by the voivode of Malopolska, who is the representative of the government of the Polish Republic.
I feel confident that the government of the Polish Republic will find a prompt solution to this problem, and that the solution will be satisfactory to public opinion in Poland and around the world.
