62 anniversary of liquidation of “Zigeunerlager”
The Roma People Association and Roma Historical Institute invite to the ceremonial commemorations of the 62 anniversary of liquidation of “Zigeunerlager” (Roma Camp) which take place on the August 2nd, 2006 at the former Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp
The agenda of the ceremonies:
- 11.45 Arrival of the organized groups and formal guests, meeting at the gate leading to the former “Zigeunerlager”
- 12.00 Moving to the Roma Holocaust Monument
- 12.10 Commemoration addresses
- 13.20 Laying down the chaplets
The celebrations are organized with the financial support of the Ministry of Interior and Administration of the Republic of Poland and The Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression
Invitation to the “Roma Rising” exhibition
Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Katowice, The Roma People Association in Poland and the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim/Auschwitz have the pleasure to invite you to a festive opening of the exhibition “Roma Rising” on Wednesday, 2 August 2006, at 14.30 in the International Youth Meeting Centre in Oświęcim, 11 Legionów Street
About the exhibition
The exhibition Roma Rising is the work of the U.S. photograph Chad Evans Wyatt. The exhibition contains 40 black-white pictures portraying important people of the Roma minority in the Czech Republic described by short biographical notes about these persons.
The exhibition is guided by an interesting publication dedicated to their existence and work and the aim of this exhibition is to present a large group in Roma minority for which the family and education have a priority, which is in a strong opposition to widely held stereotypes.
