Educational challenges in authentic memorial sites

The results of the three-year project “The Future of Auschwitz and the Holocaust Education in Authentic Memorial Sites” implemented by the Auschwitz Museum and the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam were summarised during an international conference held at the Book Gallery in Oświęcim from 10-12 October.
Exhibition of documents from the Eiss Archive in Bern

The exhibition presenting the Eiss Archive was opened at the residence of the ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Bern. The unique collection of documents was acquired in August from the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum thanks to the considerable involvement of the Polish diplomacy and support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

The German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas visited the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum on 20 August 2018. He was welcomed by Andrzej Kacorzyk, deputy director of the Museum and head of the International Centre for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust, who in the course of the visit familiarised the guest with the history of the camp and the contemporary challenges of the Memorial. He was accompanied by a former Auschwitz prisoner Marian Turski.
Seminar for Israeli educators

On 8-19 July 2018, the International Centre for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum organised another edition of the seminar “Auschwitz in the collective consciousness in Poland and the world. The role and significance of the Auschwitz-Birkenau remembrance for Jews and Poles” addressed to Israeli educators. 20 persons attended the seminar - tour guides and employees of institutions that deal with the topic of the Holocaust.
