Polish-English report summarizing the year 2020 at the Auschwitz Museum and Memorial was published. In his introduction, Director Piotr M. A. Cywiński wrote: „Worse than forgetting, is such a memory, that doesn’t arouse a moral anxiety within us.”

In 2020, a total of 502,000 people visited the Auschwitz Memorial. It is nearly five times less than a year ago. The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the number of visitors to the Memorial in 2020.

Conservation works have been completed on two guard towers at Auschwitz II-Birkenau

Conservation works have been completed on the second of the historical guard towers at the site of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Both buildings were damaged in March 2019 by strong gusts of wind. The Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation financed the works.

76th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz - announcement

On 27 January 2021 we will commemorate the 76th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the commemoration will exceptionally not be held at the Memorial, but in the virtual space.

Support from Taipei for the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation

Taiwan will join the group of donors of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation. Its support will amount to PLN 1.5 million. According to the Memorandum of Understanding, these funds will be allocated to implementing educational projects devoted to the history of Auschwitz using new technologies.

The director of the Auschwitz Museum, Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński and the director of the International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust, Andrzej Kacorzyk were awarded the Orders of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
