AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU FORMER GERMAN NAZI CONCENTRATION AND EXTERMINATION CAMP
The functioning of the Memorial during the recovery from the pandemic was the main subject of a meeting of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum Council held on 2 June.
The latest Italian-language publication of the Auschwitz Museum, entitled "L'infanzia rubata. I bambini liberati ad Auschwitz" (Deprived childhood. Children Liberated in Auschwitz), was presented for the first time at this year's Turin Book Fair, the second largest book fair in Europe.
The Malmömässan hall in Malmö, Sweden, hosted the official opening of the exhibition "Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away." prepared by the Auschwitz Museum and the Spanish company Musealia.
The President of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, visited the Auschwitz Memorial and Museum on May 21. The guest was welcomed by the director of the Museum, Piotr M. A. Cywiński, PhD. He was accompanied by Wojciech Soczewica, director-general of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation.
“Auschwitz. A Monograph on the Human” is a new book by the Auschwitz Museum Director Dr. Piotr M. A. Cywiński. It is the first attempt - on a global scale - to delve so deeply into human emotions inside the camp. It is a must-read for those seeking to understand what Auschwitz was all about.
A unique discovery was made in the Collections of the Auschwitz Memorial. Inside one of the children's shoes, personal information of its owner – a Czech Jewish girl – was found. It also turned out that a suitcase that belonged to her uncle survived and is preserved at the Museum.
Images from www.auschwitz.org may be used only in publications relating to the history of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau or the activities of the Auschwitz Memorial. Their use must not tarnish the good reputation of the victims of KL Auschwitz. Any interference in the integrity of the images – including cropping or graphic processing – is prohibited.
