“Never before in the history of the Auschwitz Memorial have we been so close to guaranteeing the rescue of all the extant remains of the largest concentration camp and extermination center. Never before has Memory been so close to responsibility”—one reads in the new report of the Auschwitz Memorial. The 70 color pages of the bilingual report contain information on the most important events of 2009.

Dr. Piotr M.A. Cywiński, director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, and Avner Shalev, director of the Yad Vashem Institute, signed a letter of intention in Jerusalem on January 24 covering work on a complete overhaul of the exhibition titled "The Martyrdom and Struggle of the Jews in Europe from 1933 to 1945", located in block 27 at the Auschwitz I site.

The original Arbeit macht frei inscription, stolen from above the main gate at the site of the Auschwitz Nazi German concentration camp and extermination center in Dcember 2009, returned today to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

Just three months after its founding, 25 thousand people from all over the world have joined the official Auschwitz Memorial page at Facebook.

Information for participants in the ceremony

A group of Auschwitz Memorial historians commemorated the tragic events that took place 65 years ago, during the Marches of Death in the second half of January 1945. They placed flowers and lighted candles in Brzeszcze, Pszczyna, Brzeźce, Pawłowice, Jastrzębia, Wodzisław, Świerklany, Żory, Suszc, and Bieruń Stary.
