Webinar: "The Beginnings of the Functioning of the Auschwitz Memorial", February 26
The International Center for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust (ICEAH) invites you to a webinar, "The Beginnings of the Functioning of the Auschwitz Memorial," on February 26.
During this online session—which will be simultaneously translated into English—two lecturers from the Museum’s Research Center, Dr. Jacek Lachendro and Dr. Piotr Setkiewicz, will discuss the situation on the grounds of two parts of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp: Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau, from liberation on 27 January 1945, until the creation of the Memorial in July 1947.
A separate topic will address the beginnings of guided tours on the former camp grounds. Adelina Hetnar from ICEAH will talk about the first guides, who were primarily Survivors. As early as 1946—a year before the official establishment of the Museum—around 100,000 people visited the grounds of the former camp, led by these eyewitnesses to history.
