Seminar “Judaism — The History and Culture of Polish Jews — Holocaust”

26-05-2009

The International Center for Education About Auschwitz and the Holocaust at the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau in Oświęcim is organizing a seminar “Judaism — The History and Culture of Polish Jews — Holocaust”.

The seminar is meant for Polish humanities teachers, museum guides, and educators, who deal with the subjects of Auschwitz, the Holocaust, the persecution of Jews under the Nazis, Jewish cultural history in Poland, and Polish-Jewish relations. Authors and creators of projects and education programs about the history of the Holocaust and Second Word War can sign up for the seminar.

The seminar consists of three parts:

  • The first part is a one-day study meeting at the Museum, which is to make the participants familiar with the topic and to get a more detailed scope of knowledge about Auschwitz and the Second World War.
  • Part two consists of a twelve-day course at the Yad Vashem Memorial Institute in Israel, which includes in the program 120 hours of lectures, workshops, meetings with witnesses to history, and study trips. These include the issues presented in the seminar topic, methodology of teaching about the Holocaust, contemporary problems of the State of Israel, with special emphasis on Jewish-Palestinian relations.
  • This year’s seminar at Yad Vashem will take place from October 31 to November 13, and 20 educators will take part. The Israeli side will cover the cost of the stay and study trips while in Israel. The participants will cover all remaining costs associated with the trip to Yad Vashem. As in previous years, the Museum has applied for funding for the project by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • The third part of the seminar is a one-day, working meeting to sum up the seminar at the Museum.
