MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU FORMER GERMAN NAZI
CONCENTRATION AND EXTERMINATION CAMP

Administration

The main tasks of this department include various housekeeping tasks at the Auschwitz and Birkenau sites—maintaining overall cleanliness, mowing the grass, trimming the hedges, applying anti-weed agents and, in wintertime, clearing the snow from routes that visitors use.

Staff members make minor repairs on their own, as well as supporting the Preservation Department on larger projects.

They also assist the volunteer efforts by Polish youth (such as those from the Ecological and Forestry School Complex in Brynek) and the German young people hosted by the International Youth Meeting House in Oświęcim.

The department also provides transport for the Museum and cooperates with other Museum departments in holding commemorative observances, official visits, and pilgrimages, and arranging lodging in guest rooms; the staff supervises residential quarters, ensures that supplies are in place, and staffs the telephone switchboard.
